  • Overview

    Serve as Attending Veterinarian in the Office of Animal Care (OAC) and support the animal care and use program by providing veterinary care, in conjunction with the clinical veterinarian and veterinary technicians, to research animals including laboratory mice and rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine, wild rodents, and zebrafish. Regularly interact with colleagues fulfilling key regulatory responsibilities, the site Institutional Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and representatives of outside regulatory agencies including the USDA. Assure that the condition and care of the animal facility is in compliance with institutional standards and policies; local, state, and federal regulations; and AAALAC guidelines. Oversee the animal use training program by providing assistance with, and recommendations and training on, animal handling, laboratory techniques, sedation, analgesia, anesthesia, surgical and post-surgical care, and euthanasia. Provide diagnostic necropsy and coordinate pathological analysis of animals as needed. Oversee animal imports/exports and the sentinel program.


    Required Education/Experience:
    - Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
    - At least five (5) years training and experience in laboratory animal medicine.

    Required Credentials:
    - Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Washington State.

    - ACLAM board eligible or certified.
