Under general supervision, the Hospital Coder is responsible for the collection of relevant, pertinent, accurate and timely diagnosis and/or procedural codes abstracted from hospital case types that most commonly include but are not limited to: hospital outpatient clinics, emergency department, imaging, and professional billing to the extent of the hospitals responsibilities. This includes effective use of hospital encoding systems and resources as well as recognizing what data can be abstracted, presented and interpreted for effective use throughout the hospital data cycle.. Performs other duties as assigned and may be responsible for working account problems in EPIC or researching denials and family complaints when it relates to coding.
- Associates Degree or two years college coursework in Health Information Management or equivalent, or a Seattle Children’s Apprentice Hospital Coder for no less than 12 months.
AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P, CCA or AAPC: CPC, COC, CIC, CRC, CPMA, CPC, or CPC-A, COC-A
