    The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain and manage the Flow Cytometry Core at the Center. Responsible for the operation, oversight, training, and management of the BD FACS AriaII and FACS Melody cell sorters, as well as the BD The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain and manage the Flow Cytometry Core at the Center. This position is responsible for the operation, oversight, training, and management of the BD FACS AriaII and FACS Melody cell sorters, as well as the BD LSRII flow cytometers. The work includes sorting cells from tissues infected with pathogens, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV. Thus, the successful applicant will be trained to perform cell sorting using BioHazard Level 3 (BSL-3) precautions, as the FACSAriaII is housed in a BSL-3 containment facility. The incumbent works with researchers who have a need to use a flow cytometer for both experiment consultation and instrument troubleshooting. The Manager is responsible for developing policies and procedures, maintaining the financial health of the Core and communicating with all levels of personnel.  The Manager performs duties with little direction given.     Essential Position Functions

    · Development of specific protocols to perform the research needs of individual researchers using flow cytometry, including protocols for cell sorting BSL-3 pathogens

    · Assisting and training researchers on all flow cytometry instrumentation

    · Maintain and manage the Flow Cytometry Core instrumentation in a high state of readiness

    · Sorting cells or assisting in cell sorting for researchers in BSL2 and BSL3 environments

    · Troubleshooting instrument issues and arranging outside service as needed

    · Educating faculty and staff about the potential uses of flow cytometry

    · Monthly billing and budget management for the Flow Cytometry Core

    · Consultation and experiment design regarding the potential uses of flow cytometry

    · Communicate effectively with researchers, other Core Managers and leadership on issues and developments in the Flow Core, as appropriate

    Requirements

    Required Education/Experience:
    - Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    - Minimum five years of experience in flow cytometry.
    - Experience conducting highly complex cell sorting and flow cytometric experiments.
    - Extensive technical expertise in instrument quality control and routine maintenance, troubleshooting and advising on flow sorting strategies.
