Overview

The Infection Preventionist is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees about infection prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection control standards that meet JCAHO, OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally organized agencies recommendations and requirements.

Requirements

Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field
- Two (2) years full time (or equivalent) experience in a healthcare or clinical research setting (MPH or Master's in Epidemiology can be substituted for experience).

Required Credentials:
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or obtain within 3 years

Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related healthcare discipline
- Five (5) years full time (or equivalent) experience in a healthcare or clinical research setting
- Infection prevention or hospital epidemiology experience or coursework (i.e. APIC ICE 101, SHEA Certificate Course in Healthcare Epidemiology) in infection prevention
