Overview

The Aderem Laboratory at Seattle Children’s Research Institute has an immediate opening for a research scientist.

 

Scientists in our group employ the tools of systems biology to dissect the innate response to pathogens that are significant problems for global health with a specific focus on tuberculosis. Our goal is to define the mechanisms that result in a successful immune response to infection or vaccination and identify targets for therapeutic intervention to correct inadequate or dysregulated responses. A large portion of our work involves mouse models of vaccination and infection. By integrating systems biology-based “omics” approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.), we aim to develop predictive models of the complex interactions that maintain the fine balance between host defense and inflammatory disease.

 

We are seeking an experienced scientist who can undertake independent research projects as well as contribute to collaborative projects both at Seattle Children’s and world-wide.

 

Knowledge, skills, and requirements:

• Strong background in immunology including all standard laboratory techniques.
• Experience with mouse models of vaccination and infectious disease.
• Ability and willingness to work in BSL-3 and ABSL-3 environments.
• Experience with basic bioinformatics is helpful but not essential.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Experience supervising research associates or students is helpful but not essential.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work productively as part of a team.
• A strong interest in infectious disease and global health.

Requirements

Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a scientific discipline or related field.
- Minimum five years of related experience with a strong publication record (May require a PhD for certain lab specialties. If Master's prepared, minimum three years of related experience in a field of scientific study).
- Experience analyzing data using imaging software
- Experience with laboratory coordination.

Preferred:
- PhD in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related area
- Substantial prior experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and tissue culture techniques
- Familiarity with mouse brain development.

- A track record demonstrating scientific creativity, collaboration, and independence.

 

In accordance with new Washington law for healthcare workers, Seattle Children’s requires that all staff be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 on or before October 18, 2021, or before beginning employment for start dates after October 18th.
