Responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques; contributes to the planning, design, execution and interpretation of experiments; makes detailed observations, records data and assists in preparation of reports, papers presentations, and new proposals; presents results/papers at technical meetings; may participate in the guidance/mentoring of junior staff.



Job duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Maintain the lab’s large biorepository of a wide variety of human samples, as well as maintaining all related databases
  • Process incoming human samples, including DNA extraction, and/or RNA, protein extraction in a timely fashion
  • Perform sequencing or supervise sequencing-based projects including digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), as well as analyze data and troubleshoot relevant experiences
  • Process, grow and maintain incoming human cell lines, including human fibroblast cell lines in a timely fashion
  • Supervise, support and help mentor students and incoming trainees in the lab
  • Learn or execute human stem-cell based experiments 
  • Contribute to preparation of research manuscripts, reports, presentations, reviews, and summaries 
  • Actively participate and present summaries of work progress at group meetings 
  • Other duties as assigned 


Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; may require a Master’s Degree for certain lab specialties
- Minimum to two (2) year’s experience in a related area/laboratory setting.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience 
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology techniques (PCR-based methods, next generation sequencing and/or single cell RNA sequencing)
  • Advanced understanding of genetics (e.g. modes of inheritance, DNA structure and function, PCR) 
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral communications is essential 
  • Must be comfortable working independently, taking the initiative to explore possible solutions, and doing both as part of a team 
  • Expertise in processing a wide variety human tissue samples including brain tissue samples
  • Extremely high degree of organization and accuracy
  • Proficiency with excel, GraphPad, ImageJ or other equivalent image processing programs
  • *Experience with human stem cell-based methods and neuronal cell lines preferred
  • *Experience with imaging human brain tissue sections preferred
  • *Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 based editing methods preferred
  • *Experience with single cell RNA-sequencing based methods preferred
  • Flexibility to take on additional tasks as necessary to accomplish team goals
