The Maves lab in the Center for Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the University of Washington invites applications for an open postdoctoral position, available beginning in fall of 2021. The Maves lab studies the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying skeletal and heart muscle differentiation, in order to gain insights into the origins of diseases such as muscular dystrophy and congenital heart defects. We primarily use zebrafish as our model organism. Projects in the lab involve investigating the early transcriptional and epigenetic defects in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and using CRISPR genome screening to identify new genes involved in heart defects.

The selected candidate will join the vibrant research community at CDBRM, located in downtown Seattle, as well as the broader developmental biology, muscle biology, and zebrafish communities in Seattle. This position offers outstanding opportunities to develop unique, independent projects and collaborations across the SCRI and UW communities and beyond. The PI is committed to the career development of trainees, and there are excellent opportunities for career development.


We will consider highly-motivated candidates across a broad range of research backgrounds, and previous experience working with zebrafish is not necessary. Other qualifications include a PhD in biological sciences or related area from an accredited university training program and experience with drafting and submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.

Required Education/Experience:
-Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program
- Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area

Required Credentials:

- Previous experience conducting research in the pediatric arena
- Experience in protocol and manuscript development and in grant writing
