The Department of Psychiatry at Seattle Children’s is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or PA-C with at least 1 year of experience working in child and adolescent psychiatry to join our multidisciplinary team of providers. The PMHNP or PA-C will provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for the clinical management of pediatric patients admitted to the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU). The PMHNP or PAC-C will be responsible for obtaining patient histories, evaluating patients, performing physical exams as appropriate, ordering and interpreting labs or other diagnostic tests, prescribing medication, and developing and modifying treatment plans. The PMHNP or PAC-C will also direct and participate in coordination of treatment planning following discharge. As applicable, the PMHNP or PA-C will collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, psychologists, mental health therapists, case managers, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high-quality care. Job responsibilities may also include evaluation and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with behavioral health concerns, consulting with medical teams of patients hospitalized in other medical units and supporting patient care in partial hospitalization programs and/or intensive outpatient programs. The PMHNP or PA-C will contribute to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects and may be offered opportunities to participate in education and research efforts for patients, families, and the health care team.
Various FTE levels will be considered.
- Master’s degree or higher in nursing with a concentration in a psychiatric nurse practitioner program.
- One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical mental health area.
- Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington.
- Current national certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner (lifespan scope of practice))
- Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration.
- At time of hire: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- As a condition of employment: Current BLS for Health Care Providers is to be maintained at all times by all nurses. Note: current PALS and/or PEARS will be accepted in lieu of BLS, and must be maintained as current at all times. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position. (ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above.)
- Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider, Seattle Children’s Hospital.
- Prior to start of employment, must obtain, and maintain in good standing, medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment. All medical and allied health professional staff members are provisional for the first year.
- Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children’s as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies. Questions regarding medical or allied health professional staff privileges may be directed to Medical Staff Services.
- Two years experience in a nurse practitioner role.
- Two years experience in pediatric health care.
In accordance with new Washington law for healthcare workers, Seattle Children’s requires that all staff be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 on or before October 18, 2021, or before beginning employment for start dates after October 18th.
