Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist

The senior marketing and communications specialist will initiate, develop, direct, implement and evaluate a variety of marketing and communications efforts in support of Seattle Children’s Research Division goals, initiatives and operations.


This includes:

  • Scientific writing/storytelling and content development for scientific and clinical research labs/programs and other research initiatives to publish on Seattle Children’s website, as well as content strategy and upkeep of the research division section of the website
  • Marketing and communications consultation and support to research division leaders, departments, scientific and clinical research teams for projects and initiatives that span multiple channels and audiences — e.g., scientific and healthcare community, patients and families, general public, Seattle Children’s workforce
  • Development and upkeep of marketing and communications materials; write creative briefs and communications plans to define project goals, originate concepts, write copy and collaborate with clients, stakeholders and external vendors, as needed
  • Lead, develop and execute internal communication strategies for research division workforce
  • Other responsibilities might include project managing large-scale marketing and communications projects, and writing and updating content on Seattle Children’s intranet

This position will be a hybrid of onsite and remote work.


Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field
- A minimum of five years experience in communications, public relations, copywriting and/or editing or project management (in any combination)
- Experience in scientific communications or demonstrated comfort with science

- Experience writing for different audiences — science/research, lay (community/general public), medical and healthcare professionals, and the global health community

- Experience in digital content strategy

- Experience in the healthcare or science field or a non-profit organization

- Experience managing multi-faceted projects with complex timelines

- Familiarity adhering to editorial, graphic and video best practices and standards
