Seattle Children's has the only rheumatology program in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to children and teens, 17 and under. We provide overall care for pediatric Rheumatology patients. We diagnose and treat patients with inflammatory diseases that affect muscles, joints and connective tissues. These complex conditions include juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic juvenile lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, vasculitis, fever syndromes and many other conditions that may begin with bone and joint pain. Our Rheumatology interdisciplinary clinic team is made up of experts in their fields, including Pediatric Rheumatologists, Registered Nurses, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Nutritionists and Medical Assistants. The laboratory of Dr. Stefan Kappe (https://www.seattlechildrens.org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/kappe-lab/) at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR), Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI), is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scientist to study the immune mechanisms that mediate protection against malaria parasites. The Kappe laboratory has pioneered the development of genetically attenuated whole parasite vaccines that engender sterilizing immunity in animal models of malaria and in human subjects.  The protective immune response is mainly driven by CD8 T cells. This project in the Kappe laboratory aims to identify the parasite MHC-I antigen targets that are presented to immune cells, factors that influence the durability of the adaptive immune responses and the role of innate immune responses in impacting the magnitude and quality of protective immunity.   This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to work with immunologists, molecular biologists and pathogen biologists in a vibrant, collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment to further the goal of a highly protective malaria vaccine. In addition to providing program development, implementation and evaluation, the psychologist position will also provide and oversee some direct treatment including individual therapy, parent training, and groups. The position will be a hybrid of in person services and telehealth services. Preferred candidates will have interest and/or experience in inpatient, PHP/IOP, or other high intensity programs. The PMHNP or PAC-C will be responsible for obtaining patient histories, evaluating patients, performing physical exams as appropriate, ordering and interpreting labs or other diagnostic tests, prescribing medication, and developing and modifying treatment plans. The PMHNP or PAC-C will also direct and participate in coordination of treatment planning following discharge. As applicable, the PMHNP or PA-C will collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, psychologists, mental health therapists, case managers, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high-quality care.
