The James lab at Seattle Children’s Research Institute are hiring motivated scientists to join a rapidly expanding research program focused on B cell engineering. Ultimately, the goal of the B cell engineering group is to develop novel B cell therapies.   For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated molecular biologist and/or virologist to participate in projects related to gene delivery in B cells. The successful candidate will develop a program for building receptor-targeted lentiviruses for delivery to B cells in vivo and in vitro. Binding domains specific for cell surface receptors expressed on B cell subsets will be cloned into plasmids expressing novel lentiviral pseudotypes, which will be used to generate receptor targeted lentivirus. The resulting virions will be evaluated for the ability to transduce several types of B cells. Successful candidate vectors will be then evaluated in vivo. These studies will likely involve multiplexed screening, viral production/purification, flow cytometry and in vivo proof-of-concept experiments.     The applicant will collaborate with senior scientists and the principal investigators to plan, execute and interpret experiments. The applicant will be required to independently select and apply standardized scientific procedures, contribute to the design and planning of experiments, troubleshoot experiments, make detailed observations, record data and assist in the preparation of reports, papers and presentations. Eventually, the research scientist may participate in  the guidance/mentoring of junior staff. In this role, the research scientist will spend the majority of their time focusing on molecular and cell biology applications, but may also spend some time participating in rodent experiments.
